Vilnius University Library 

  Specialized collections of the Library contain such rarities as the oldest printed book in Lithuania the incunabula Opus de universo by Rabanus Maurus (Strasbourg, 1467) and one of the two known in the world copies of the first Lithuanian book – the Catechism by Martynas Mažvydas.

  The Vilnius University Library is open to Vilnius University community, citizens of the city of Vilnius and the whole country as well as foreign guests.

  For many years Library has been one of the must see places for the most honorable guests of the Republic of Lithuania. It was visited by the royal family of Belgium, Prince Charles of Wales, Pope John Paul II, the spiritual leader of Tibet Dalai Lama, the Queen of the Netherlands, the royal family of Spain and many others.

  The mission of the Vilnius University Library is to provide a world class library and information services meeting the ever-changing demands of the university, the whole country and international academic community.

  Since 2010 the Library has been participating in the national digitization project "Development of Virtual Electronic Heritage System" (VEPS), financed from the EU Structural Funds. The key activity of the Library within this project is digitization of printed and manuscript documents in line to priorities indicated in the Vilnius University Library's Strategy for Digitization: documents of the Great Duchy of Lithuania, church register books, documents related to the history of Vilnius University, books in Lithuanian and other languages printed in Lithuania in the 16th-18th centuries, including the first Lithuanian book – the Catechism by Martynas Mažvydas.
